Behaviour & Safety

Children maximise their potential in an environment which is safe, secure and supportive of all their needs. Everyone who comes into contact with children and their families has a role to play in safeguarding them. Safeguarding is of paramount importance at Evergreen Primary School. We are a listening school and we take concerns seriously. Our school is committed to promoting the welfare of all children by working together with parents and carers, the Local Authority (LA) and multi-agency partners in early help and child protection, in accordance with locally agreed Local Safeguarding Children Board procedures and practices.

All staff are trained in safeguarding and child protection. We have three members of the senior leadership team trained as safeguarding leads who are responsible for managing child protection concerns. Family support is offered through school events and we work closely with other agencies to promote the welfare of our children.

Health and safety are monitored by senior leaders and activities are risk assessed. Where necessary pupils may have an individual risk assessment to ensure their safety.

Our Safeguarding and Child Protection policy can be found on our School Policies Page and information regarding ESafety, can be found on our School E-Safety page.

Educate Against Hate

As a school protecting children from the risk of radicalisation is part of our wider safeguarding duties, and is similar in nature to protecting children from other harms (e.g. drugs, gangs, neglect, sexual exploitation), whether these come from within their family or are the product of outside influences.

In order for us to fulfill our duty, it is essential that staff and parents are able to identify children who may be vulnerable to radicalisation, and know what to do when they are identified.

Here is a link to a website which provides parents and schools with information about radicalisation. Please take the time to read the parental section.

We believe that all our pupils should be able to develop to their full potential within a supportive and caring environment. Our approach is underpinned by the values and ethos of The Nurturing Program which believes that being emotionally healthy, having robust levels of self-esteem and a sense of empowerment, choice and responsibility will support the aspirations of children and adults to reach their potential and get the most out of school life. We want our children to feel valued, understood, and respected. Our approach encourages empathy, positive relationships and improved communication, and teaches skills and strategies to promote emotional health and resilience. We strive to create a learning environment which is focused, disciplined and purposeful, where there is respectful communication, guidance without criticism, and a positive climate in which everyone can achieve their goals.

All staff are trained in the philosophy and management strategies of Team Teach. Some children have risk assessments and support plans which detail strategies to support the development of positive behaviour.
